Faith, Food, + Fitness: From the Ground Up

Last week we talked about lasting change. Today, we are starting from the ground up.

Have you tried to change in the past but always find yourself going back to your old habits? Perhaps, you lost a few pounds or even several over a period of time, but sooner or later, you were right where you started. Each time you’ve tried, you’ve come up with a different set of rules in an attempt to see what really worked... what might actually stick, in order to keep the weight off or be mindful about a healthy lifestyle. But, unfortunately, you still haven’t found the secret ingredient. Well, that changes now! The secret ingredient is faith.

Faith is something we all have the ability to choose, we just have to tap into it. We all want to believe in something bigger and greater than ourselves. And, I think we can all agree that we could all use some greater willpower to live a healthier lifestyle, at times. If you don’t trust God to help you change your habits and be healthy, all you are left with is your own strength – and you know from experience that your willpower and strength doesn’t usually last very long.

The Bible says “Let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” {Galatians 6:9} But where do we get the power to keep going? You get it from God, by asking the Holy Spirit to empower you and by trusting in Him moment by moment.

God can make changes in your life that you never dared to even dream of. He specializes in miracle makeovers. God, through His mighty power at work in us, can accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. That’s a power you and I do not possess alone and cannot find anywhere else.

Close your eyes as you think about this for a moment: What could you do if you were not limited in power and strength? Imagine the positive changes in your life that could happen if you truly relied on God’s power instead of your limited willpower. What does that look like personally for you and your family?

Faith means that you won’t be doing it on your own. Whew! What a relief! God will help you as you rely on Him and trust Him to give you the ability and power to change.

“Only the Holy Spirit has the power to make the changes God wants to make in our lives. We allow Christ to live through us…. through the choices we make. We choose to do the right thing in situations and then trust God’s Spirit to give us his power, love, faith, and wisdom to do it. Since God’s Spirit lives inside of us, these things are always available for the asking.” – Rick Warren, The Purpose Drive Life

Faith is a matter of choice. You must choose to have faith. Change also is a matter of choice. We can’t just passively sit around doing nothing and expect our lives to get better. We must make healthy choices to use the resources God gives us, and the first healthy choice is to carefully choose what we think. Another healthy choice is to spend time with God in prayer, worship, and His word. If we don't spend time with God, how can we expect to know what choices to make and how to have faith when we get derailed in our journey- by our own thoughts and limitations, or simply by the stress of daily life?

I know, I know. This is a health and fitness blog. You’re probably wondering when I’m going to start talking about what the best exercises are or what you should and should not eat. I promise we will get there, but I want you to remember what I wrote in the beginning. We have tried different sets of rules to get healthy and it’s failed every time. The only thing that we've changed were the restrictions. The same attempts = insanity. So, let’s dare to try something different. Let’s take it a few steps back and build some solid foundation to ensure you are successful this time. You haven’t been able to do it on your own in the past, so why not try to trust God in this journey and let Him show you what He can do in you?

Our mission is to equip and empower you to live an integral holistic healthy lifestyle; spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. When building an entire house to stand through storms and time, the foundation is the first thing to be set…it’s extremely important to ensure the house lasts. The same goes for our health. Together, let’s start at the foundation. We’ll work on it together to guarantee that your house will stand the test of time and storm. During our 40 Day Challenge we will provide you more education on this topic of Faith. Join us to learn more.

As you continue through this weekend, remember this image. Let's build a strong foundation from the ground up. Let's build our health around a solid, firm, and tested foundation of faith in God- who is greater than us.

Let's do this- together,

Coach Andrea
