Mommy and Daddy's Day Date: St. Augustine

Hi friends! If you have been following along for any length of time you know that my husband is active duty Navy. That being said, since December 2017 we have only spent 10 days in March together and August 9- September 12. Also, we have an infant and live 9 hours from family, all that background to say we understand that date days are rare.

We get it, friends. We understand that life happens. However, we also get that investing in your partner is so important. It is so important to re-connect and date. We are a family that believes word are not empty, they are powerful tools so we define things for each other when we feel they are over used. Let me remind you the significance of the word as described in Webster's Dictionary "The word date comes from the Latin word dare, “to give.” This is my bread and butter y'all. "To give"- wow; to give time, to give energy, to give importance, to give vulnerability, to give love, to give effort... And if that wasn't enough, my husband's love language is quality time. We needed to date.

That being said, how do you date with an infant?! Right? Well you find a really amazing friend who sees the necessity and you owe them for a life time. Then you drop your sweet little love off and run an hour and a half away. At least that is what we did. We went all the way to St Augustine just the two of us on a Saturday afternoon.

In St. Augustine we visited the "Old Jail" that was built in 1891. They do tours and show you where the inmates slept, ate, worked, and punished. The tour is given as if you are a new prisoner. They talk in old-er English and teach you about the history of the jail and certain people that were kept there until sentenced to death. This is back when they used guillotines and hung criminals for the community to gather and watch. You'll also see just below the Sheriff's living quarters.

After visiting the old jail we went to Stella Rose Winery to tour. David worked on a vineyard when we were young but I had no idea the process and man hours that it takes, especially before the use of machines to pick/harvest grapes.

To end the evening we drove back to Jacksonville and had dinner at Moxie on the Southside. It was the best day. Maybe because I had just missed my husband, or maybe because our tour guide was an excellent actor, who knows (:

Love dearly,

Mackenzie
